Complying with Unoccupancy Conditions is important for all businesses who have been forced to shut during the government enforced lockdown.

We recommend visiting the premises at least once a week to check everything is in order and keep a log of the dates and times that you visit.

Unoccupied premises represent a greater risk, more likely to attract thieves and vandals and there is a greater chance of structural damage in an unoccupied building because no one is available to deal with issues as they arise, such as, burst pipes or fire.

The conditions are generally written into the policy wording so no need to notify insurers, the conditions will apply as soon as the property becomes unoccupied.

Full cover may continue to be provided for the first 30 days of unoccupancy, then cover reduces, but this varies between insurance policies and depends on the individual policy wording.

Also, policy wordings may require for properties to be maintained at certain temperatures whilst unoccupied or for water to be turned off to prevent leaks.

We recommend you read your policies to ensure you are fully covered at this time.
